Who can be seen by telehealth?
Any patient physically located in California at the time of the visit. California licensure rules require the physician and patient to both be in the state — we cannot conduct a telehealth visit when you are traveling out of state. Telehealth is well-suited to follow-up visits, medication management, sleep apnea management, and many initial pulmonary consultations where a hands-on exam is not strictly required.
Do I need any special equipment for a telehealth visit?
A smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera, microphone, and a stable internet connection. You will receive a secure link to join the visit. No app installation is required for most patients. We recommend joining from a quiet, private space with good lighting.
Will my insurance cover a telehealth visit?
Most major insurers — including Medicare and most commercial plans — cover telehealth visits with an established or new patient. Coverage details and any patient cost-sharing depend on your specific plan and the rules in effect at the time of service. We recommend checking with your insurer before your visit if you have questions about your coverage.
When would Dr. Hsieh recommend an in-person visit instead?
If your evaluation requires a careful chest examination, pulmonary function testing, in-office imaging, a procedure such as bronchoscopy, or supplemental oxygen titration, an in-person visit is more appropriate. Dr. Hsieh will recommend the right format based on your specific concern when you request an appointment.
